Consultant Spotlight: G Herver, CPA

Congratulations to G Herver for joining the Consultants Club! Over the past two years, she’s tallied over 5,000 hours with the Cox Consulting Network. To celebrate her contributions, she’s going on an all-expenses-paid “CCN-vitational” trip to Vegas in May!

G’s Consultant Journey

Outside of HR, not many people know her first name is Gisela — all her friends, family, colleagues, and clients know her as G! She notes, “I give clients my full name and then the option to call me G, and they always default to the latter.”

G is an experienced accountant with a career spanning nearly two decades. She started her career in 2003 at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where she worked until 2011. During this time, she also worked with PwC overseas in Manchester and London for three years before returning to the Austin office in 2009. In 2011, G transitioned from public accounting to the media and entertainment industry. Over the years, she has worked in various spaces, most notably aviation, oil and energy, SaaS, biomedical technology, financial services, agriculture, and heavy industry.

Her time in public accounting was marked by her love for travel. As her husband worked in parallel with another Big Four firm, they had the opportunity to travel to a new country nearly every month.

G describes herself as even-keeled, calm, and a great team manager. These traits help her be hands-on with teams, even in high-stress situations. She takes pride in seeing her team members progress and grow. G considers relationship building one of her best skills, and she always tries to keep an open connection with the people she works with and former colleagues.

Workin-it with the consultant lifestyle

G became a consultant in 2020 and has worked with CCN since 2021. She appreciates the flexibility and control that consulting offers, and she’s been able to pick and choose the clients she wants to work with at CCN.

Over the years, she has had nothing but positive experiences with CCN and its clients. G considers herself a “lifer” in the consulting industry and has enjoyed the maturity and growth she has experienced.

“I love the type of environment that Andy has created – it’s collaborative,” G says. “I don’t feel like we’re in some sort of race or competition.”

She says that was a constant concern in public accounting — trying to get to the top the fastest or being in a partner’s favor. Even when it’s internal, G explains that tension can harm client relationships.

On her current project, G enjoys working with someone she considers to be a mentor. Mitch Bader is another CCN consultant currently serving as an interim CFO: “We had worked together before, and there’s a lot I can learn from him. He has faith in me and can let me run with projects… it feels good to know he trusts my abilities.”

Putting the life into work/life balance

Outside of work, G loves spending time with her 9-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. She attends campouts and meetings with her son, who is in Boy Scouts. She also serves as a Girl Scout troop leader and organizes the cookie distribution for her area as a Service Unit Cookie Manager.

“I get to spend a lot of time sharing skillsets I’ve learned with these girls,” G shares. “Learning how to mentor and teach children has been challenging, but I love it! I’ve been with this group since my daughter was five; now, some girls are 13.”

She also loves spending time outdoors, camping, and caring for chickens on her family acreage.

G’s husband is also a UT MPA graduate and lives half of the year in Washington, DC, where he serves as the CFO of a university, but their primary home is in Texas. In her free time, G enjoys painting and cycling. “If I had unlimited time, I’d spend a lot more of it gardening and painting.”
